Make sure you buy 100% pure cashmere.

Generally when you go to many high street stores or supermarkets or most of web shops, you will find items marked as cashmere. Please make sure how much % of cashmere or pashmina is there in that product. Sometimes its just 10-20% of cashmere in their products. There is no use of buying such product if you want to feel touch of pure cashmere. Some sell 70% pashmina and 30% silk to reduce price. Be sure before you buy how much pashmina or cashmere is present in product. If you want to buy something which keeps you warm in winter and which is very soft then go for 100% Pure Cashmere.

Pashmina: To keep the moth away

the first important thing to make sure that the muffler is clean before long-time storage. Pay close attention to any food stains as moths are particularly attracted to our normal food proteins and cooking oils. Those moth proofing products are helpful, or simply spray some perfume on a piece of paper and put the paper next to your pashmina products inside the box.

Spinning of Cashmere

The cashmere wool is collected every spring and is basically spun by hand. The yarn is spun on a spinning wheel locally known as ‘Charkha’. Prior to spinning, the raw material is treated by stretching and cleaning it to remove any dirt and soaked for a few days in a mixture of rice and water to make it softer. Hand-spinning is an extremely painstaking task. It requires immense patience, dexterity and dedication and is amazing process to
watch.

How Big Brands are Cheating People?

Last Month I had a meeting with a USA pashmina buyer. The Lady was very smart and clever. She was looking for pashmina 50% Pashmina 50% Silk Quality. And she also told me she is selling the Pashmina 50% Pashmina 50% Silk under 70% Pashmina 30% Silk Tag. The lady has a big brand name on Pashmina and she is doing like this :( . A supplier offered her 50% 50% Superb quality and u know what guys she refused to take the buyer offer and told us “I cant sell this fine quality because the price are little high”. And the price difference was only 20-30 Rs. Indian bucks. I gone through her site and I found she is making good margin from pashmina. Really this is ridicules how big brands are cheating people. Just because of people are not much aware about pashmina. So please whenever you buy something please realize the quality as mentioned by the seller.

There is something more luxurious than PASHMINA

There is something more luxurious than pashmina--but it's illegal. It's called shahtoosh, and it comes from the chiru, an endangered wild Tibetan antelope. To clip its hair, hunters there kill the animal. Its wool is said to be even softer than pashmina. A pure shahtoosh wrap is sometimes called a ring pashmina shawl because it is very much delicate that a whole shawl can be easily slipped through a gold ring. Pashmina, in comparison, is so fine that a folded shawl can rest in the palm of one's hand. It's illegal to buy or sell shahtoosh under the U.N. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, but there's a black market; a shahtoosh shawl starts at about $9,000. Which makes pashmina seem downright reasonable, even ecofriendly, by comparison.

Cheap is not always best?

If you’re hiring someone to re-roof your house or drywall your basement, should you take the lowest bid? Probably not. Would you pay bottom of the barrel rates for car insurance? Not a good idea. You wouldn’t buy the cheapest car or TV available. Then why search for a cheap Pashmina shawl? Cheap has it’s consequences. Lesser quality, lesser service, lower wages for the producers resulting in child labor, no sustainability development. Buy a high quality Pashmina shawl and pay a little bit more knowing that your money goes to good causes. Supporting small entrepreneurs instead of that all the money goes to the big businessman.

Weavings

For centuries, the mountain people of Nepal have had to depend on the fabric they wove for warmth, for easy travel, and for survival. In many high mountain areas and semi-tropical jungles, they continue to weave what they wear. The art of weaving yak wool, sheep wool, or vegetable products by hand has been practiced throughout the country remains popular today as its rugged conditions have not changed. Hill women's dhaka shawls and the men's topi caps are handmade. Nepalese Tibetan rugs, radi floorings, straw mats, and pashmina shawls are some weaving traditions that the visitor may observe in Nepal. Bhaktapur women wove their own saris, the Sherpas of the high Himalayas weave beautifully patterned cloth to go with their bakkhus. This section is particularly interesting because weavings are Nepal's single largest export. Further information is being added to this section.

How to wear Pashmina?

Step1
Wear it as a shawl. The most common use for a pashmina is to wear it as a shawl. If you’re cold or just merely want to cover up a little bit, the pashmina is perfect. Wrap it around your shoulders and secure it by either tying it in the front or allowing it to drape down.

Step2
Use it as a scarf. Fold your pashmina up horizontally in the shape of a scarf. Tie it around your neck and allow it to dangle down.

Step3
Use it on your wedding day. Many brides and bridesmaids are using pashminas as an extra accessory for their wedding day gowns. Usually, the pashmina will be draped over the bride’s or bridesmaids’ shoulder(s).

Step4
Use it as a sarong. If you’re out at the pool or just lounging around the house, you can use a pashmina as a sarong. Tie it around your waist so that it hangs off of your hips. It will resemble a half skirt. You can alter your pashmina sarong to expose as little or as much as you want to.

Step5
Wear it as a tube top. A pashmina can double over as a tube top on those warm summer days. Fold your pashmina in half horizontally. Depending on how large your pashmina is, you might have to fold it again or fold it into thirds. Wrap it around your chest and secure it by tying it in the back.

Step6
Wear it as a belt. This looks great over a form-fitting tank top or lengthy blouse. Fold your pashmina in half or in thirds. How you fold it depends on how big you want your belt to look. Secure your pashmina by tying it on the side of your hips.

Is the number of plies in a cashmere garment like a thread count -- the more the better?

The yarn in a two-ply shawl is two strands twisted together to compensate for uneven or weak spots in the individual strands, resulting in a stronger shawl. Additional plies add weight and warmth, but they aren't really a measure of quality. Generally, single-ply cashmere won't be as durable. But high-end makers, pull off lightweight, one-ply pieces with high-quality yarn and good construction.

Pashmina Accessories

Pashmina accessories are available in a range of sizes, from "scarf" (12" x 60") to "wrap" or "stole" (28" x 80") to full sized shawl (36" x 80"). Pure pashmina is a rather gauzy, open weave, as the fiber cannot tolerate high tension. The most popular pashmina fabric is a 70% pashmina/30% silk blend, but 50/50 is also common. The 70/30 is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen and drapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.

How do I care & clean Pashmina?

1.I recommend dry clean only.
2. Do not store in damp conditions or in direct sunlight.
Fold and pack into tissue paper or a polythene bag and if you live in a humid area put a silicon gel pack to absorb humidity.
3. Always remove stains as soon as possible. If storing your garment for a long time, have it cleaned before storing. This will also help protect it from moth. Additional protection against moth is moth balls or cedar chips. Ensure these do not lie directly on the garment to protect it from being stained by them.
4. Do not wear the same garment every day, allow two or three days rest after wearing.
Avoid wearing cashmere next to rough clothing and jewellery. Pearls are better for cashmere than metal necklaces and crocodile belts.
5. Pilling is caused by abrasion due to regular use. To remove piles manually pick them off; do not brush or rub cashmere garments.

What is the difference between the pure Pashmina & the Pashmina with silk blend?

The Pure Pashmina is very expensive as well as delicate, and is not a practical proposition for more frequent and informal dressing. Fifty-fifty (50/50) blending of pashmina fiber with silk and using mass producing techniques results in products (‘shawl’, ‘scarf’ or a ‘wrap’) which have a unique softness, smoothness, and are devoid of typical itching feeling associated with pure wool. Silk in the blend makes the product very elegant, comfortable, resistant to wear and tear, easily affordable, and quite suitable for everyday use, therefore making it very popular. We at Cashmere Pashmina Store call it Silk Pashmina. Women generally wear Silk Pashmina shawls/scarf as casual wrap or as a part of their business attire.

what is the difference between Pashmina and Cashmere

Pashmina is often inaccurately described as the highest quality of cashmere. In fact there is no difference between cashmere and pashmina. The highest quality of pashmina is the highest quality of cashmere, and the lowest pashmina is the lowest cashmere. Pashmina and cashmere refer to the same thing. The raw material comes from Tibet and Inner Mongolia.

Fashion Prominence

When pashmina shawls rose into fashion prominence during the mid-'90s, they were marketed dubiously. Cashmere used for pashmina shawls was claimed to be of a superior quality, which was really due to the enhanced sheen and softness that the fabric (cashmere blended with silk) had. In the consuming markets, pashmina shawls were redefined as a shawl/wrap with cashmere and silk, notwithstanding the actual meaning of pashmina. Some shawls marketed as pashmina shawls contain wool, while other unscrupulous companies marketed the man-made fabric viscose as "pashmina" with deceptive marketing statements as "authentic viscose pashmina". These are often sold for a very low price, leaving the buyer to decide whether it is authenticity, quality, or price that motivates their purchase.
